Hearing aids are available with a variety of features, different levels of technology and different styles. Your audiologist will discuss with you the results of your hearing test and ask you about your lifestyle to help guide you in choosing the right hearing aids for you.
The working parts of this hearing aid, except for the speaker and a thin wire, are contained in a plastic housing behind your ear. The Behind the ear hearing aids are available for use with disposable batteries or with a rechargeable option.
With ITE and ITC hearing aids, the electronic components are contained in a custom-made plastic shell. The main difference between the two being size of the hearing aid shell and size of the battery. The ITE is slightly larger, for some people this means easier insertion of the hearing aid and easier battery changes.
Like above, the CIC electronics are contained in a plastic shell. This hearing aid, however, sits completely within the ear canal. The main considerations with this hearing aid are ear canal size (is your ear canal large enough to fit all the electronics in the shell?) and manual dexterity (are you going to be able to change the tiny battery required to make a hearing aid this size?).
Some hearing aids are now offered in rechargeable models. After charging for just a few hours, the rechargeable hearing aid can last up to 48 hours. This a good option for those with manual dexterity challenges for whom changing a battery would be difficult, for those who are concerned about their battery dying at an inconvenient time, or for those who are environmentally conscientious.
If talking on the cell phone is a challenge, there are options available that make it possible to send telephone conversations directly to your hearing aids.
Whether it’s telephone, television, batteries, or just a remote control for the volume on your hearing aids, there are options available to you. You can even use your smart phone as a remote control for your hearing aids.
